Phili standing near a big mahogany tree at the southeast corner of our shamba.
Looking westward across the big swamp (towards Masindi) that provides the municipal water supply. it is filled with papyrus, fish, and beautiful waterbirds.
A beautiful vista from the road to our shamba, looking back towards Masindi. We are at 3800 ft above sea level, and surrounded by small mountains and greenery everywhere.
A typical vista, after clearing the lantana. Note the mahogany tree in the foreground.
Phili shopping at THE WALMART OF KIJENGA
The tractor stuck in a bad place. it took me four hours and the help of my emergency tow strap and my little toyota 4wd in granny gear to get it out - oh, the joys of farming!
Welding the towing hitch back on a borrowed trailer, out in the middle of nowhere. The "welding plant" on the back of my truck consists of a Chinese diesel motor, a home made 'generator', and something that resembled welding rods. The fellow did a good job, however. Note the approaching thunder clouds, to make things fun!
Phili surveying land stretching eastwards from close to our place. It is ideal for cattle keeping, never plowed
Taking the workers out into the middle of our shamba (garden in Kiswahili) to set up camp and begin clearing the bush
Yasoni plowing, opening land for the first time, which is a BIG challenge, for a new client from Masindi who wants at least 100 acres opened this year (this season, we are opening 25, which is a lot of work). The place is called Nyakyanika (how about that for a name??)
